"Fed up" - Michael Moore writes his own 4th of July declaration
Criticizing the recent events in the US, filmmaker Michael Moore says he cannot continue to receive the privileges of “full citizenship”.
Filmmaker Michael Moore said on Monday that he is "completely fed up" with the recent events that were recently witnessed in the United States, writing his own 4th of July "declaration".
On his personal blog, Moore, 68, said he refuses "to live in a country threatened by white supremacy — and I’m not leaving. So we‘ve got a problem."
Commenting on the US Supreme Court's decision to end abortion rights in the country, Moore considered that "I cannot in good conscience continue to receive the privileges of “full citizenship” in this land when all of its women and girls have now been, by Court decree, declared official second-class citizens with no rights to their own bodies and conscripted to a life of Forced Birth should they fall pregnant and not want to be."
He said that he "will not shut up" until women’s rights have been fully reinstated and their equal rights are enshrined in the US Constitution, vowing not to stop "until Roe is reinstated and 51% of Congress is female."
End police shooting Black people
The filmmaker touched on racial discrimination in the US, demanding "an end to the mass incarceration of Black Americans, an end to police shooting Black people, and I demand that reparations be made to the Black community for all they currently have to suffer and endure."
In his own 4th of July declaration, Moore said that "I insist we remove every single Republican from office in November," considering that "The Republican Party has dismantled itself and its remaining rogue elements now exist purely to overturn legitimate election results and overthrow the elected will of the vast majority of the American people. This must be halted without delay or equivocation."
The documentary filmmaker said that "No candidate will get our support unless they sign a pledge stating they will vote to make Roe v. Wade the law of the land; make gerrymandering and voter suppression illegal; eliminate the filibuster; upgrade Obamacare to Universal Health Care for All; pass strong gun control laws; and end the police executions and racist incarcerations of Black citizens."
"POOF! goes Wall Street!"
Moore concluded by indicating that he "will help lead a national strike, in whatever form it needs to take, and if we want to see immediate change, watch what happens when we shut down even 10% of the country. POOF! goes Wall Street! Hit ‘em where it counts."
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time Moore criticizes the United States.
Commenting on the Uvalde school shooting that left 19 elementary students killed and two teachers dead, Moore called on the media to demand ending the Second Amendment, which protects the US citizens' rights to bear arms.
In an interview for MSNBC, the filmmaker considered that "We won't acknowledge that we are a violent people to begin with. This country was birthed in violence with the genocide of the native people at the barrel of a gun. This country was built on the back of slaves with a gun to their back."
"Who will say on this network or any other network in the next few days, 'It's time to repeal the Second Amendment?'' Moore asked.
