One killed in Georgia US Army base shooting, prompting lockdown
Officials stated that no information about the victim would be disclosed until the next of kin was notified.
A deadly shooting left one person dead and temporarily locked down a US Army base in Georgia on Saturday.
Fort Eisenhower was put under lockdown Saturday at 9 am, according to a Facebook post from the Army facility.
“LOCK DOWN! LOCK DOWN!” The message stated. “EXECUTED LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES ON THE INSTALLATION IMMEDIATELY! IF YOU ARE IN DANGER TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION!”
An "all clear" was provided around an hour later, indicating that the "dangerous event" was over.
Fort Eisenhower subsequently reported that one individual was shot and killed in what was called an "isolated event" in the base's on-post housing.
The alleged shooter has been caught, according to the Army installation, and no other information regarding the shooting has been supplied.
Officials stated that no information about the victim would be disclosed until the next of kin were notified.
The base stated in a Facebook post that “Fort Eisenhower is actively supporting the victim’s family and assistance will be available to anyone impacted by this tragedy. The safety of our residents and personnel remains our primary concern."
The statement further detailed that the base intended to hold ceremonies commemorating the Army-navy football game but canceled the events due to the lockdown.
