Shooting near Howard University in Washington leaves four injured

At least four people were shot near Howard University in Washington, DC, as homecoming celebrations were underway, local police reported. The Howard University shooting occurred around 8:23 pm on the 600 block of Howard Place, close to the university’s Yard and the School of Architecture building.
The shooting incident took place as thousands gathered for Friday evening’s homecoming festivities, which included a Homecoming Kick Off and a Greek Step Show. The university campus was filled with attendees celebrating the annual event.

DC police confirmed that one victim remains in critical condition, while another is in serious condition. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting.
According to a spokesperson for DC emergency services, seven individuals were treated for injuries, four of whom sustained gunshot wounds. The remaining victims were treated for non-gunshot-related injuries, and the scene was declared secure shortly after the response.

In a social media update, DC traffic police acknowledged the ongoing shooting investigation and announced road closures in the surrounding area. Despite the incident, Howard University homecoming events are scheduled to continue through Sunday. University officials have not released a statement regarding potential changes to the remaining program.

The gun violence in Washington, DC has once again drawn attention to public safety during large community gatherings. Moreover, Friday's shooting adds to the growing concern surrounding Washington, DC, shootings, especially those occurring near educational institutions.
This shooting comes after four people were killed and at least 12 others were injured in a shooting that occurred on October 11 in Leland, Mississippi, officials said.
Leland Mayor John Lee informed CBS News that the shooting occurred around midnight, resulting in four of the injured being airlifted to local hospitals, though there was no immediate information on their condition.
According to Lee, the shooting occurred on a main street where people had gathered for Leland High School's homecoming game, which, according to the school district's website, was scheduled against Charleston High School.
