'Israel' hostility could result in regional war, Syria says
Syria underlines in a letter to the UNSC that the broadening scope of Israeli hostilities in the region might lead to an all-out regional war.
Syria asked the Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the UN Security Council to take action to put an end to the hostile policies of the Israeli occupation, which might lead to a regional escalation that would threaten regional and international peace.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent out two copies of one letter to both the Secretary General of the United Nations and the UN Security Council, both of which were discussing the Israeli occupation's aggression on December 25, which manifested in an airstrike that martyred a senior Iranian commander working in the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
The airstrike that killed senior IRGC commander Seyyed Razi Mousavi is a hostile act of aggression that "constitutes a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."
"This brutal Israeli aggression against the sovereignty of the Syrian territories is part of the occupation authorities’ attempt to expand and escalate their aggression in the region and to cover up war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity and brutal massacres committed daily against the defenseless Palestinian people," the letter read.
Syria committed to right to defend sovereignty
The aggression was also carried out in a bid to allow the Israeli occupation "to escape their failure in the face of the will and determination of the Palestinian people to achieve freedom and self-determination and establish an independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital."
"The Syrian Arab Republic is committed to its inalienable right to defend its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as affirmed in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and stresses that Israel's hysterical acts of aggression will not deter it from continuing to combat terrorism that is backed by Israel and its sponsors, nor will they limit its intention to restore its occupied territories," the letter stressed.
In the letter's conclusion, the Foreign Ministry concluded its letters by saying Damascus demands the Security Council assume its responsibilities to put an end to the Israeli occupation's policies of aggression that threaten to ignite the region and push it toward a comprehensive escalation that threatens regional and international peace and security.
Martyr Razi: A pillar in the plight of Resistance
Talking about Martyr Razi Mousavi, the Commander in Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Hossein Salami underlined that his comrade was "the main pillar of Resistance in the region, as the fruits of his labor are today visible in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine."
"Martyr Razi spent his life in the struggle of Resistance and sacrifices, and he was a companion of Resistance fighter martyr Qassem Soleimani," he added. "The desperation and defeat of the enemy are due to his struggle [on the path of liberation]."
The Israeli occupation, Salami said, "knew martyr Mousavi very well - perhaps more than us - because it received several heavy blows from him [...] It also knows martyr Mousavi's influence on the Resistance Front that is confronting it and the United States."
"We will not stand idle regarding the killing and martyrdom of our compatriots; our revenge will be stern and severe, and it will be nothing short of putting an end to the Israeli entity," the Iranian commander stressed.
