Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz announced on Monday that "Israel" has lifted the state of emergency for areas near the border with Gaza, which had been in effect since Hamas's Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7, 2023.
"I have decided to adopt the (Israeli military's) recommendation and to lift, for the first time since October 7, the special state on the home front," Katz's office announced in a statement.
The decision reflects the new security reality in the south of "Israel" and came as a ceasefire that began on October 10 largely continued to hold. Active up to 80 kilometres from Gaza in southern "Israel", the state of emergency granted authorities special powers to maintain public order and ensure civilian safety.
The same state of emergency was temporarily expanded to the whole of "Israel" in June 2025 after "Israel" attacked Iran, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile strikes in over 20 waves.
Meanwhile, "Israel" has continued to violate the ceasefire in Gaza near-daily, launching airstrikes and attack across the territory and leaving numerous Palestinians martyred and wounded.
On October 27, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that eight bodies of martyrs were recovered from under the rubble and 13 people were injured over the past 48 hours amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement.
Furthermore, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that since the ceasefire took effect on October 11, Israeli attacks have killed 93 Palestinians and wounded 337 others, while rescue crews have recovered 472 bodies from the ruins.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Gaza said that two Palestinians were martyred earlier today after an Israeli drone strike targeted citizens in Abasan al-Kabira, east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
