'Tehran vows retaliation', says Amir-Abdollahian before Syria visit
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stresses Tehran's plans to take legal and international measures regarding the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
A source revealed to Al Mayadeen that Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, is set to visit Damascus on Monday, following his recent trip to Oman.
Earlier on Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Minister denounced, during a meeting with Sanaa chief negotiator, Mohammad Abdul-Salam, in Muscat, Oman, the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, assigning responsibility to "Zionist forces employing American-manufactured aircraft and missiles."
On April 1, US-supplied Israeli F-35 fighter jets launched six missiles toward the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, leading to the martyrdom of seven Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) officers, including martyr Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.
The US failed to condemn the attack during an urgent meeting of the UNSC. Its deputy representative, Robert Wood, said that Washington cannot confirm information about the event and the nature of the attacked facility.
Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that Tehran would respond and punish the aggressors, revealing plans to take legal and international measures within the framework of international resolutions.
Regarding the Yemeni issue, Amir-Abdollahian said, "Iran's relationship with Saudi Arabia is moving towards further development," adding that Tehran supports Yemeni-Yemeni negotiations.
In his statement, he condemned the joint American-British airstrikes on Yemen, describing them as a violation of Yemen's sovereignty and a means of enabling "Israel" to persist in its crimes against the Palestinian people.
On his part, Abdul-Salam said, "We conveyed Yemen's condolences for the martyrs of the consulate due to the treacherous Israeli aggression, and our support for Iran's right to respond and deter the enemy from further escalation, and the importance of continuing support for Gaza at all levels."
He further highlighted that the latest developments at the regional and international levels were also discussed during the meeting.
Iran's FM slams UNSC's Western bloc for aiding Israeli criminal action
Earlier today, Amir-Abdollahian, slammed the United States, the United Kingdom, and France for opposing a statement in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that condemned the Israeli regime's malicious strike on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria.
The top diplomat said that the actions of the aforementioned states in the UNSC were proof of their "political hypocrisy".
"There is no doubt that the Islamic Republic of Iran, apart from the legal and international measures taken, will use its rights recognized by international law to punish the criminal aggressors and hold them accountable," Amir-Abdollahian stated.
Amir-Abdollahian said that the stances of the Western bloc of UNSC permanent members constitute brazen support for the Israeli regime's crimes and encourage the expansion of regional instability and insecurity.
Regarding the meeting held by Amir-Abdollahian in Oman, the official arrived in Muscat on Sunday, heading a diplomatic and parliamentary delegation.
The foreign minister held talks with Omani officials to discuss the course of cooperation between the two states and the implementation of their previous agreements.
