After 63-day hunger strike, Prisoner Awawdeh's health critical
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club says occupation authorities continue their refusal to end the prisoner's administrative detention.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club (PPC) said on Wednesday that Prisoner Khalil Awawdeh (40), west of Al-Khalil, who has been on a hunger strike, is in critical health condition.
The PPC added in a statement, that despite Awawdeh's health condition, occupation forces still refuse to end his administrative detention, with no solution for his case insight.
The last visitor to see Awawdeh in prison said that he is in constant pain, and the Israeli prison service's systematic maltreatment is making things worse.
Occupation authorities are purposely delaying answering his demand to tire him out and cause him health problems that would be difficult to treat later on. This is one of the Israeli authorities' policies, which aims to wear down prisoners' physical well-being.
In the past few years, during which hundreds of prisoners went on hunger strikes, occupation authorities have used a number of punitive measures to break the prisoners' will and keep them from hunger striking.
Israeli authorities arrested Awawdeh on December 27, 2021, and was placed in administrative detention for a period of six months. He had already been placed in detention on multiple occasions since 2002. This is the fifth time he has been arrested, including three administrative detentions. He is also married and has four girls.
Prisoner Raed Rayan (27) is also continuing his hunger strike against his administrative detention for the 28th day, his health condition is also deteriorating as he remains in prison, and occupation authorities are also refusing to respond to his demands.
Rayan was arrested on November 3, 2021, and was placed under administrative detention for six months. When his sentence was almost over, his detention was renewed for another four months, prompting him to go on hunger strike.
He, as well, is a former prisoner, who spent 21 months in administrative detention and was re-arrested shortly after he was released.
