Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb, strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against Iran, warning that the occupation's actions aim to plunge the region into chaos and widespread conflict.

In a post on X, Sheikh al-Tayyeb stated that “the systematic assaults and ongoing recklessness by this entity are meant to drag the entire region to the brink of explosion, igniting a full-scale war that benefits only the merchants of blood and arms.”

The message, notably and unprecedentedly written in Persian, signals a significant gesture of solidarity with the Iranian people amid heightened regional tensions in light of the war being waged by the Israeli regime against the country. The Grand Imam stressed that the silence of the international community in the face of Israeli aggression equates to complicity in the crime.

“This silence, and the failure to put an end to such tyranny, serves only to endanger global security,” he said. “War cannot create peace.”

Iranians protest Israeli aggression

Thousands of Iranians took to the streets of Tehran and other cities on Friday in mass demonstrations under the banner of “Friday of Rage and Victory,” amid growing tensions with the Israeli occupation and rising violent rhetoric from US officials.

According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Tehran, the turnout for the protests has far exceeded expectations, with large crowds gathering across multiple urban centers.

In a statement issued Friday, Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council warned that attempts to impose terms on the Islamic Republic would fail. “Trump and the delusional supporters of the Zionist entity should know that the surrender of our people or the imposition of peace are illusions that will not come true,” the council said.

Protests break out against war on Iran

In recent days, small but vocal protests have taken place across several US cities, with demonstrators urging the Trump administration not to support "Israel's" war on Iran.

Protests were held in San Jose, California, on Tuesday, and in New York City and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday. Demonstrators carried signs with messages like “Hands off Iran,” expressing strong opposition to any US involvement in the escalating war.

The mere suggestion of American involvement has stirred controversy within Trump’s own MAGA base. Influential conservative figures like Tucker Carlson and former Trump advisor Steve Bannon have publicly opposed the idea of joining "Israel’s" war.

On Tuesday, about two dozen protesters gathered outside the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library in San Jose to denounce US military interference, according to local outlet Fox KTVU. Some waved Iranian flags, while others held signs reading “Hands Off Iran.” The demonstration was organized by the San Jose Peace and Justice Center.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, thousands of people rallied in central London at an “emergency protest” under the banner: "Stop Bombing Iran – Stop Arming Israel," according to the Daily Express.

Despite this resistance, hawkish voices remain. Senator Lindsey Graham declared on X that Iran’s regime would attack the US after "Israel" if given the chance, adding, "President Trump is about to put a period on that statement."
