Al Mayadeen: Lebanese Delegation to Discuss Energy Procurement
Lebanese governmental sources confirm to Al Mayadeen that negotiations will be held to discuss procedures regarding importing Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity.
Lebanese governmental sources confirmed to Al Mayadeen today that an official delegation will visit Syria, Jordan, and Egypt to discuss the gas procurement from Egypt, passing through Jordan and Syria to reach Lebanon. The visit is the first to Syria in more than 10 years.
According to the governmental sources, the delegation will include Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Zeina Akar, Minister of Energy Raymond Ghajar, Minister of Finance Ghazi Wazni, and General Director of the Lebanese General Security Abbas Ibrahim.
The same sources pointed out that negotiations will be held to discuss the procedures regarding importing Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity, as well as discussing ways of cooperation to import electricity from Syria.
This comes days after Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Sayyed Nasrallah, announced the departure of a ship loaded with diesel from Iran to Lebanon, and revealed that a second ship "will set sail within days and other ships will follow."
Sayyed Nasrallah welcomed "the Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity project and all efforts to aid Lebanon," noting that his party does not seek political gains but only the people’s wellness.
It is noteworthy that Lebanon is suffering from an economic crisis, while it is reported that the Governor of Banque du Liban announced on August 11 that the bank is no longer able to support the purchase of fuel.
The banks' decision ignited the Lebanese streets, as roads were cut off in various regions.
