Al-Zubaidi goes on hunger strike in solidarity with Awawdeh, Rayan
Palestinian prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi goes on hunger strike in solidarity with hunger-striking prisoners Khalil Awawdeh and Raed Rayan.
Palestinian prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi, one of the prisoners behind Operation Freedom Tunnel, which saw six brave prisoners liberating themselves from the unjust prisons of the Israeli occupation, is on the fourth day of his hunger strike launched in solidarity with the hunger-striking prisoners, Muhjat Al-Quds Foundation reported on Thursday.
"Prisoner Al-Zubaidi is on his fourth day of hunger strike in solidarity with hunger-striking prisoners Khalil Awawdeh and Raed Rayan," the foundation said in a press release.
The prisoners’ committee in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine had in April called for the launch of a broad support campaign in solidarity with the prisoner Raed Yousef Rayan, just days after he announced the start of his hunger strike.
Palestinian prisoners Khalil Awawdeh, 40, from the town of Idna in Al-Khalil, and Raed Rayan, 27, from the village of Beit Duqu north of Al-Quds, continue their open hunger strike for the 99th and 63rd consecutive days in protest against their administrative detention.
The occupation prisons administration had rejected four days ago a request filed by the lawyers of the two detainees' to transfer them to a hospital so that they could receive medical attention despite their critical health condition.
Rayan is suffering from headaches and joint, flank, and knee pain, as well as difficulty in walking. He has not been examined by a doctor and has not undergone any medical examinations since the beginning of his hunger strike.
Awawdeh, on the other hand, is suffering from severe joint pain, headaches, vertigo, and blurred vision. He is also unable to move and is wheelchair-bound.
The occupation prisons administration is deliberately transferring Awawdeh to civilian hospitals sot that tests could be performed on him, but he is brought back to prison without examination every time under the pretext that he is not at a critical stage yet.
Waed Association denounces Israeli bids not to offer healthcare to prisoners
"The Zionist plan not to provide healthcare to sick Palestinian prisoners is tantamount to a death sentence," the Waed Prisoners Association said in a statement denouncing the Israeli policy of medical neglect.
The Israeli policy of medical neglect is a reflection of the fierce attacks that Palestinian prisoners are subjected to in the occupation prisons. "The prisoners will not stand idle in the face of this racist approach taken against them."
The association called on the international community to make its stance clear regarding the racist Israeli doctrine and to contain the sadistic calls stemming from "Tel Aviv".
Waed also called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to clarify its stance on the wrongdoings against the Palestinian prisoners.
Khalil Awawdeh, a father of four girls, was arrested on December 27, 2021, and an administrative detention order was issued against him for a six-month period. He had previously been arrested several times since 2002.
Raed Rayan was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces on November 3, 2021, and was transferred to administrative detention for a period of six months. As his detention period was about to end, the Israeli occupation renewed his detention for an additional four months, which led Rayan to announce his open hunger strike.
