Algeria, Lebanon, committed to enhancing bilateral ties

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and affirmed his commitment to enhancing Lebanese-Algerian relations in all fields.
Aoun received Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf on Sunday at the presidential palace in Baabda. The Algerian foreign minister, in turn, handed him a written letter on behalf of President Tebboune.
The Lebanese president also praised Algeria's positions at the United Nations Security Council in favor of Lebanon, especially throughout the Israeli war, and expressed his appreciation for the support of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Meanwhile, Attaf highlighted that Lebanon is going through a critical phase in its history—one of strengthening its institutions, revitalizing its economy, and ensuring security. "Throughout all these stages, Algeria stands firmly by Lebanon’s side," he stressed.
Both officials discussed the brotherly bonds tying their nations, solidarity, and cooperation, as well as prospects for strengthening them, particularly in the economic sector. Attaf also reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to continuing its support for Lebanon in its capacity as the Arab member of the UN Security Council.
The two officials also reviewed regional developments and the latest updates on the Palestinian cause. Attaf and Aoun emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination between their countries in preparation for upcoming Arab summits.
Algeria requests emergency UNSC session amid Israeli terror on Lebanon
On September 18, 2024, and based on Lebanon's request, Algeria called for an emergency session at the United Nations Security Council to examine the developments in Lebanon, particularly the widespread electronic terrorist attacks committed by "Israel".
In a phone call, Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Attaf extended the country's condolences to his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, for the victims and martyrs of the Israeli aggression.
Attaf further expressed Algeria's "complete solidarity with Lebanon amid the tragic and difficult circumstances that it is witnessing due to the ongoing and recurrent Israeli violations against its security and stability."
