Amir-Abdollahian to Ukraine FM: Ready to help end war
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian calls on his Ukrainian counterpart to focus on political solutions to the Ukraine crisis.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba during a phone conversation on Thursday that Tehran has since the beginning announced its refusal of the war in Ukraine, and called for focus to be put on a political resolution to the crisis.
Furthermore, Amir-Abdollahian said Tehran is ready to lend its support in order to end the war, adding that Iran does not believe that war is a suitable choice to end the crisis. He also noted that the relationship between Iran and Ukraine, over the past decade, was one built upon friendship, respect, and mutual benefits.
For his part, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister thanked his Iranian counterpart, and Iran for its stance in opposition to the war in Ukraine, saying Kiev is ready for all kinds of political support to end the crisis.
He also said that continued talks between Tehran and Kiev are considered a constructive step in the strengthening of bilateral relations.
Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized last week the significance of stopping the fighting in Ukraine as soon as possible and reiterated the Islamic Republic's willingness to assist in resolving the issue diplomatically.
Raisi warned against attempts to expand the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) influence in various parts of the world during a meeting with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran on June 22, blaming the US and the military alliance that it leads as the root cause of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
