Berri vows commitment to defend Lebanon against Israeli aggression
In a statement released ahead of Resistance and Liberation Day, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri reaffirmed Lebanon's adherence to UN Resolution 1701 and criticized “Israel” for violating it.
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri declared on Friday that "Israel" is intensifying its military operations in an attempt to offset recent losses suffered in Lebanon.
In a statement issued on the eve of Resistance and Liberation Day, Berri reiterated Lebanon's commitment to UN Resolution No. 1701 and blamed "Israel" for violating this resolution.
Resolution 1701 was reached in the wake of the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon. It calls for the full cessation of hostilities and the deployment of the Lebanese Army to Southern Lebanon. Ever since the aftermath of the 2006 war, "Israel" has incessantly breached the Resolution, violating Lebanese airspace with their warplanes.
Furthermore, the Lebanese Parliament Speaker emphasized Lebanon's right to defend its territory and expressed openness to international efforts aimed at curbing Israeli aggression. He also called for national unity to safeguard the achievements made on May 25, 2000, and urged the Lebanese government to accelerate efforts to facilitate the safe return of Syrian refugees.
Berri also called on the international community to address the issue of Syrian displacement with a humanitarian approach.
This comes as the Resistance in Lebanon, led by Hezbollah, has been targeting military sites and gatherings of the Israeli occupation forces along the Blue Line since October, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and in response to the ongoing aggression by "Israel" against Lebanon.
