Canada sends lethal weapons to Ukraine
Canada recently promised to send Ukraine machine guns, pistols, carbines, 1.5 million rounds of ammunition, sniper rifles, and various related equipment.
As announced by Canada's defense minister Anita Anand, the second batch of military transport aircraft C-17 of the Royal Canadian Air Force has arrived to Ukraine, bringing in lethal military aid.
This announcement came following the decision by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with Anand's support, with the aim to "deter Russian aggression."
"Today, our Canadian Forces made a second delivery of lethal military aid to support our Ukrainian partners. Russia’s further invasion of a sovereign state is absolutely unacceptable, and we will continue to stand by Ukraine as the country defends its sovereignty and independence," Anand said on Twitter.
On Tuesday, Canada announced its first round of sanctions on Russia after Moscow announced its recognition of Lugansk and Donetsk as two independent republics.

On Saturday, Canada sent its first batch of weapons to Ukraine in addition to Canadian instructors.
Last week, Canada's Department of National Defense announced that Canada will supply Ukraine with lethal weapons and equipment amid Kiev's ongoing crisis.
Canada's military assistance to Ukraine includes machine guns and sniper rifles, the Canadian Department of National Defense said in a statement.
"Canada will donate over $7 million of lethal weapons and assorted support items to the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Department confirmed, adding that the military assistance "includes machine guns, pistols, carbines, 1.5 million rounds of ammunition, sniper rifles, and various related equipment."
The Department said, "Canada stands resolute in its support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence and continues to condemn Russian aggression as it builds up its military forces around Ukraine."
