Enhancing Iran, Syria economic ties 'absolute necessity': Iranian FM
Amir-Abdollahian reciprocates Sosan's interest in further enhancing mutual cooperation, especially in the economic sphere.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Ayman Sosan discussed in a meeting in Tehran on Monday the latest developments in Syria and the region and ways to develop the bilateral ties between the two nations.
Amir-Abdollahian stressed the importance of the outstanding relations between Iran and Syria and the necessity of maintaining economic cooperation and expanding it between the two countries in order to utilize their capabilities and establish stability, security, and peace in the region.
On his part, Sosan discussed developments in Syria and West Asia at large. He emphasized the significance of the strategic affinity between Syria and Iran and proposed mechanisms for further developing bilateral relations to face common challenges.

Furthermore, the top Syrian diplomat honored the memory of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani, whose third martyrdom anniversary was last week, revering his role in combatting terrorism in Syria. He also thanked the Islamic Republic for its support for Syria and its help in the political resolution of the crisis in the country.
Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous stressed late last month that strengthening the economic ties between Damascus and Tehran was vital to face the Western sanctions against the countries and overcome the current challenges.
In addition to the economy, the director of the Syrian-Iranian People's Friendship Association and the Syrian premier discussed several fields in which the two nations could cooperate to elevate the ties, emphasizing that boosting current relations will strengthen each country's economy, which would enable them to face the unilateral unjust sanctions.
Syria has witnessed in the recent period an increased number of Iranian investors establishing businesses and creating firms to operate in the Syrian economy, most notably what is referred to as the "reconstruction" of the country following the destruction caused by the international war waged on it.
Iranian companies entering the Syrian market operate in various areas, including construction, and movie and TV production.
The Syrian people have for years been the target of an imperialist-led onslaught that heavily weakened the government's capacities to rebuild the nation, which has made it difficult for public works to attend to reparations and emergencies.
