In a statement on Monday, the Gaza Ministry of Health strongly condemned the abduction of Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, Director of Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital, who is also responsible for managing field hospitals and serves as the Ministry’s spokesperson.
The detention was carried out earlier today by a special armed unit, marking a dangerous precedent and a direct assault on the voice of Gaza’s sick, hungry, and suffering population.
The statement describes Dr. Al-Hams as one of the most prominent humanitarian and medical voices, who has brought to the world’s attention the suffering of starving children, the pain of the wounded denied access to medicine, and the cries of mothers at hospital gates.
Through this act, "Israel" has shown its intent to silence the truth and to conceal the suffering of an entire population enduring the most horrific health and humanitarian catastrophe.
The statement stated that the attack is considered a grave violation of freedom of expression and humanitarian work. The Israeli occupation is held fully responsible for his safety, and the Ministry demands his immediate and unconditional release.
Gaza Ministry reports 134 martyrs in 24 hours
The Gaza Health Ministry also reported in its daily toll that 134 Palestinians have been killed, including four whose bodies were recovered from the rubble, and 1,155 others injured in the past 24 hours as Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip continue.
The latest figures bring the total death toll since October 7, 2023, to 59,029 killed and 142,135 injured. The ministry also noted that between March 18, 2025, and today, 8,196 people have been killed and 30,094 injured.
The ministry further revealed that 99 people were killed and more than 650 injured in the past 24 hours while trying to secure humanitarian aid, raising the total number of aid-seekers killed to 1,021 and over 6,511 injured since the beginning of such incidents.
