Gaza's sole power plant shuts due to Israeli blockade
In addition to the suffocation and Isolation the Gazans are suffering from, “Israel” unleashes new brutal aggression.
Amid the ongoing brutal Israeli aggression, Gaza’s sole power plant in the enclave shut down on Saturday after running out of fuel, five days after “Israel” closed its goods crossing with the Palestinian enclave.
"The power plant in Gaza has stopped (working) due to the fuel shortage," said Mohammed Thabet, spokesperson for the electricity company.
The electricity supply is expected to plummet to just four hours a day, Thabet added.
It is worth noting that "Israel" has imposed a strict blockade on Gaza since June 2007, crippling its vital sectors.
The Gaza Electricity Company stated earlier on Saturday that the shutdown "will affect all public utilities and critical installations and exacerbate the humanitarian situation."
Furthermore, the company called on "all parties to urgently intervene and allow the entrance of fuel deliveries for the power plant to work."
According to data from the UN's humanitarian agency OCHA, Gaza's 2.3 million residents face regular power outages and received only an average of 10 hours of electricity per day last week.
Basic services in the territory's six main hospitals are on the verge of collapsing due to a severe lack of fuel required to run emergency electricity generators amid a rising number of martyrs and critically injured Palestinian including children.
"Israel" launched on Friday brutal aggression that left 12 martyrs, including a 5-year-old girl, and dozens critically wounded.
