Hamas condemns Abbas' meeting with Gantz
Hamas calls the meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Security Minister Benny Gantz a deviation from nationalism.
Hamas has considered that the meeting of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas with Israeli Security Minister Benny Gantz is a deplorable act rejected by all patriots and a deviation from the national spirit of the Palestinian people.
Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesman, released a press statement where he commented on the meeting taking place coincidingly with the settlers' attacks on the Palestinian people in the West Bank, which increases the severity of the Palestinian Authority's crime and constitutes a stab in the back of the Intifada in the West Bank.
Qassem added that such behavior by the PA leadership deepens division among Palestinians, complicates the Palestinian situation, encourages some parties in the region that push for normalization, and weakens the Palestinian position that rejects normalization.
Abbas meets Gantz
The head of the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs, Minister Hussein Al-Sheikh, said Tuesday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Israeli occupation Security Minister Benny Gantz for the second time since August.
According to Haaretz, Al-Sheikh stressed that the meeting touched on "the importance of having a political horizon for achieving a solution based on the decisions of the international community," as well as "issues of economic and humanitarian concern and the tensions in the West Bank such as confrontations between Palestinians and Israeli settlers."
Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported that the meeting between Abbas and Gantz took place at the latter's house and lasted for two and a half hours.
