Current French President Emmanuel Macron has won the 2022 French presidential elections, renewing his term after being elected as President in 2017.

Following his re-election, heads of state rushed to congratulate him.

US

US President Joe Biden congratulated his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on his re-election and expressed willingness to expand cooperation in a variety of areas, including support for Ukraine and the fight against climate change.

"Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election. France is our oldest ally and a key partner in addressing global challenges. I look forward to our continued close cooperation — including on supporting Ukraine, defending democracy, and countering climate change," Biden posted on Twitter.

I look forward to continuing and deepening our cooperation in Europe for climate, progress, and peace."

Iceland

Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir congratulated Macron, stressing that Iceland and France should cement bilateral relations.

"Congratulations Emmanuel Macron on your re-election. I look forward to our continued, fruitful co-operation on issues such as the climate crisis and gender equality. And to further strengthen the bond between Iceland and France," he added.

Luxembourg

Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has also been pleased with Macron's re-election.

On his part, Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa said that "the French people have once again demonstrated their commitment to the European project."

"In these challenging times for our continent and the world, it is essential to count on France to defend multilateralism, security, combat climate change and participate in building a more humane, fairer, greener, and more prosperous Europe," he added.

Niger

Niger President Mohamed Bazoum described Macron's re-election as “brilliant".

"His experience in international affairs in general and in the Sahel, in particular, makes him a valuable partner for us in our fight against terrorism," Bazoum posted on his Twitter account.

Somalis

Somalian President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed also congratulated Macron, saying, "The government and people of Somalia congratulate President Macron on his re-election and wish him every success. France and Somalia have a long history of cooperation and look forward to strengthening it."

On his account, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated his French counterpart via a phone call.

Zelensky has also described Macron as a "true friend of Ukraine" in a post on Twitter.

"I wish him further success for the sake of the (French) people. I appreciate his support and I am convinced that we are moving together towards new common victories," he added.

It is worth mentioning that French security forces fired tear gas in Paris, on Saturday night, as opponents of re-elected French President Emmanuel Macron rallied in the capital.

Footage on Twitter showed police trying to disperse a crowd of mostly young men and women who had gathered in the central Paris district of Châtelet to protest Macron's victory over far-right leader Marine Le Pen in the presidential elections.

The Kazakh leader reiterated his readiness to make joint efforts with a view to giving fresh impetus to the Kazakh-French strategic partnership and invited Macron to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan. Tokayev also wished his French counterpart inexhaustible energy and successful presidency, and the French people happiness and prosperity.

Saudi Arabia

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia sent Macron a cable of congratulations on his reelection, wishing him success and "the friendly people of France further progress and prosperity."

"In his message, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques also praised the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, expressing hope to further strengthen and develop them in all fields," the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the monarch as saying.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also sent a cable of congratulations to Macron, the SPA said.

African Union

The African Union Commission chief Moussa Faki Mahamat congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron over "his brilliant re-election" on Monday, saying on Twitter that he hoped to continue building "mutually beneficial relations between Africa and France".

French President Emmanuel Macron has won the 2022 French presidential elections, renewing his term after being elected as President in 2017.

The French President won by 58%, while his opponent, Marine Le Pen, received a 42% of the voter turnout.

Although there was a relatively low voter turnout, the elections this year exhibited high competitiveness, with Macron projecting popularity among French citizens despite his neoliberal policies.
