IOF troops in Gaza and their parents accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of lying about a plan to broadcast his UN speech to residents, claiming the politically motivated operation needlessly endangered troops.
The Israeli military was instructed to place loudspeakers in front of Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip to force residents to listen to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's UN General Assembly speech, according to a report from the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on September 26.
The Prime Minister’s Office claimed that the plan was an initiative for public diplomacy, stating that it had instructed civilian actors to coordinate with the IOF in placing loudspeakers on trucks positioned on the Israeli side of the Gaza border, with an explicit order from the prime minister that this activity must not put IOF soldiers at risk.
One of the most dangerous missions
A reservist soldier informed i24NEWS that the mission was one of the most dangerous of their life while also adding that the military had failed to inform them of its real objective.
"They woke us up in the morning for a mission to escort trucks with loudspeakers. We didn’t know the real reason; they just told us it was to move the population. They asked for it to be as close to the civilians as possible," he emphasized.
According to the parents of Israeli soldiers in Gaza, the troops reported that, contrary to official claims stating the equipment remained on the Israeli side of the border, loudspeakers were in fact placed inside the Gaza Strip.
A joint statement from the families declared, "The prime minister is lying" and continued, "We know from our children in uniform that the loudspeakers were placed inside Gaza," adding that this action endangered their lives for the sake of a public diplomacy campaign to preserve his rule.
The parents accused Netanyahu of using Israeli soldiers as political tools, stating, "He is doing PR at the expense of our children’s lives and security," and further declaring that they had lost the last shred of trust in the political echelon and the army leaders who approved the scandalous operation.
