The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the Knesset's vote in favor of the proposed law concerning Israeli "sovereignty" over the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, calling for urgent and effective measures to compel "Israel" and its supporters to halt killings and expansion.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Iran's Foreign Ministry described the Israeli Knesset's vote in favor of the bill concerning Israeli "sovereignty" over the West Bank and the Jordan Valley as "further evidence of the expansionist and colonial nature of this entity."
The Ministry stressed that "approving this measure while genocide continues in Gaza and human rights abuses persist in the West Bank exposes the reality that this entity is bent on the total elimination of Palestine, its land, people, and sovereignty, with no regard for borders, international law, or even the most basic respect for UN resolutions."
International silence only enables 'Israel'
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that "all nations and international bodies have a legal, ethical, and political obligation to support the Palestinian people in realizing their right to self-determination and freeing themselves from occupation and apartheid."
The failure of the international community and global institutions, with the UN Security Council bearing particular responsibility, to fulfill their duty of preventing genocide and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank would result in increased atrocities and broader violations by Israeli authorities throughout the occupied territories, the statement added.
Iran's Foreign Ministry urged all countries, especially neighboring states and Muslim nations, to fulfill their responsibility by taking swift, concrete action to force "Israel" and its backers to stop the killings, end their aggressive land grabs, and cease military operations.
Knesset's decision escalates tensions: Moscow
The implementation of the declaration of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, on the extension of "Israel's" sovereignty to the territory of the West Bank of the Jordan River will lead to an escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli struggle, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"Moscow proceeds from the assumption that the adopted declaration will not entail practical measures on the part of the Israeli government aimed at its actual implementation. Otherwise, such actions will inevitably lead to an even greater escalation of tension in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone with difficult-to-predict consequences for both Israel itself and the entire Middle East," the Ministry said in a statement.
Moscow negatively assesses such a decision, the Ministry said, adding that Russia proceeds from the fact that the declaration on the extension of Israeli "sovereignty" to the territory of the West Bank will not entail practical actions.
Russia sees a task in establishing Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, the goal of which should be the creation of a Palestinian state, the statement added.
'Israel' votes on legalizing the occupation
On July 23, the Israeli parliament passed a controversial bill claiming Israeli "sovereignty" over the West Bank and Jordan Valley, with the legislation receiving majority support from Knesset members.
The vote passed with 71 members supporting the measure and 13 opposing it, demonstrating the cohesion within the right-wing ruling coalition while also securing unexpected support from the opposition Yisrael Beiteinu party.
While the resolution itself holds no binding legal authority, its passage before a three-month legislative break reflects increasing political traction for "annexation policies". It follows the Knesset's 2024 rejection of Palestinian statehood and aligns with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's persistent efforts to formalize Israeli authority throughout the West Bank.
The Knesset's passage of this resolution has been met with unequivocal Palestinian rejection, as expressed by Resistance factions in their statements, while Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh also voiced the PA's opposition to this move, calling on international parties to recognize the State of Palestine as a political response to this decision.
Hezbollah joined in denouncing the move, asserting that "Israel's" occupation would not limit itself to Palestinian territories. The Lebanese militant group cautioned that failing to restrain what it called "this rampaging beast devouring the Arab world" would inevitably lead to even greater violations and provocations.
