Iranian security forces have arrested a cell operating for the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency in Alborz Province, western Iran, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The two Mossad operatives were detained while the explosives, bombs, and electronic equipment in their possession were confiscated.
In April, Iran’s Judiciary announced the execution of Mohsen Langarneshin, who was convicted of espionage on behalf of the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency.
Langarneshin was found guilty of collaborating with Mossad and providing both operational and technical support in the 2022 assassination of Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).
This comes amid the Israeli aggression on Iran, which commenced on June 13, targeting several provinces, including the capital, Tehran. A series of assassinations was also executed, resulting in the martyrdom of several IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists.
Iran began its retaliation on June 14, targeting the entirety of the occupied territories with massive salvoes of missiles, inflicting severe and significant damage on key Israeli strategic sites. The destruction left behind has been described as "unprecedented" by Israeli officials.
'Complete devastation' in 'Israel'
Raz Kinstlich, the head of the Rishon LeZion municipality near Tel Aviv, stated that the damage from Iran's missile strikes was much more severe than media reports suggest, calling the aftermath "complete devastation."
In an interview with "Israel’s" Channel 12, Kinstlich emphasized that "the destruction you see on screen is nothing compared to reality." He stressed that "the scale of damage is unprecedented," adding that, "We’ve never experienced devastation like this, it’s like a scene of total destruction, almost impossible to put into words, and honestly, the sight is truly terrifying."
Meanwhile, Iranian officials vowed to continue retaliating and confronting the Israeli aggression on their country's sovereignty at an escalatory pace.
