Iran had no choice but to punish Israel: Amir-Abdollahian to Borrell
Borrell held a phone conversation with Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, expressing condemnation of Iran's retaliation.
The Islamic Republic was forced to retaliate against "Tel Aviv" after the UN failed to denounce the Israeli regime's terrorist attack on Iran's diplomatic installations in Damascus on April 1, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said.
The senior diplomat said as much during a phone conversation with Josep Borrell, the head of EU foreign policy, on Sunday.
اِعمال حق دفاع مشروع، نشان دهنده رویکرد مسئولانه ایران نسبت به صلح و امنیت منطقهای و بینالمللی است.

The EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell on Sunday condemned Iran's retaliatory response to "Israel" and called for exercising utmost restraint.
In a post on social media platform X, Borrell said he held a phone conversation with Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and expressed his condemnation of Iran's retaliatory response to "Israel".
"On behalf of EU Member States, I condemn in the strongest terms the Iranian attacks against Israel and call on all parties to exercise utmost restraint," Borrell wrote. "I just spoke to Iran’s FM Abdollahian to convey these messages & urge Iran not to escalate further."

Iran's attack was launched in response to "Israel's" recent aggression on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi blamed the US and "Israel" for the aggression. However, the US dismissed the accusation, saying it had "no involvement" in the attack. Reports said that shortly before "Israel" launched the strike on the consulate, it informed the Biden administration without asking for a US green light.

Prior to the launch of the attack, the White House reportedly sent warnings to Tehran. Despite this, Iran proceeded with the attack, suggesting they were confident that the US would not respond militarily.
Reports indicated that last night's attack involved 185 drones, 36 cruise missiles, and 110 surface-to-surface missiles launched from Iran.
Iran on Sunday warned of a stronger response if the Israeli regime decides to respond.
