Iran reaffirms commitment to peaceful nuclear program: Kanaani
Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson reiterates Iran's unwavering stance against weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and its commitment to a peaceful nuclear program.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani emphasized during his weekly press briefing on Monday that Iran's official position on weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) has been consistently communicated by senior Iranian officials and noted that the doctrine remains unchanged.
"Based on our principled approach, Iran has a clear fatwa from the Supreme Leader that prohibits the use of inhumane weapons, and we also believe that these weapons pose a threat to the international community," he noted.
Kanaani highlighted that in the West Asia region, the Israeli regime is the only side that has not joined the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In parallel, the spokesperson expressed optimism that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will uphold its impartiality in handling Iran's nuclear activities, enabling Tehran to sustain constructive engagement with the UN nuclear watchdog.
He mentioned that ongoing negotiations aim to address outstanding issues, and both parties agreed to continue consultations following IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi's recent visit to Iran, which Tehran assesses to be a positive step.
Kanaani emphasized that discussions between Iran and the IAEA have seen positive progress when the IAEA chief approached the issues in a technical manner, which was hindered when the IAEA adopted a "political approach" toward Iran.
The official affirmed that Iran remains committed to advancing its peaceful nuclear program despite pressure from the United States.
According to Kanaani, "If it was up to the United States, they would have wanted to dismantle all the industrial nuts and bolts of Iran's nuclear industry, but Iran continues to advance its peaceful nuclear program."
Moreover, Kanaani mentioned that discussions with the US are being conducted through intermediaries and are focused on the framework of lifting economic sanctions.
"Iran has repeatedly stated that it is committed to a political approach and negotiations in order to achieve the removal of the unjust sanctions," he said.
Iran may alter nuclear doctrine amid Israeli threats to nuclear plants
The Islamic Republic of Iran may reconsider its nuclear doctrine amid growing Israeli threats to the country's nuclear plants, a senior official in the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday.
The United States and most Western governments turned a blind eye to the Israeli aggression on Iran's consulate in Syria, which also resulted in the martyrdom of seven senior IRGC officials, including the commander of al-Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon. The world's main powers, including France, Germany, and the UK refused to condemn the attack in a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session, despite it being a blatant violation of the Geneva Convention and a long list of international laws.
Following Iran's recent military response, which targeted Israeli military bases in occupied Palestine used to attack the consulate, Western countries launched a campaign against Tehran. They announced that they will impose a new comprehensive batch of sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
"The threat from Israel to Iran's nuclear facilities allows Iran to reconsider and deviate from its declared nuclear doctrine and policy," said Ahmad Haghtalab, according to Tasnim news agency.
Reiterating statements made by Iran's top military and political officials, including the Iranian leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, Haghtalab added that Iran is ready to repel any Israeli aggression on its nuclear facilities and subsequently respond to the attack.
Expressing confidence that the Iranian nuclear facilities will be safe and secured, he maintained, "From the very beginning, Iran was ready to counter threats from Israel. Thanks to the use of passive defense plans, as well as the most modern weapons, thanks to the dispersal of nuclear facilities throughout Iran, we are ready to counter any threat from Israel to our nuclear facilities."
