Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a letter on Thursday to his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Rajji, reaffirming Tehran’s continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, national unity, territorial integrity, and stability, particularly in the face of Israeli attacks.
In the message, Araghchi invited the Lebanese foreign minister to visit Iran for consultations aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional and international developments. He highlighted the “deep-rooted and friendly” relations between the two countries.
Araghchi also expressed full confidence that the Lebanese government and people will successfully overcome the current challenges and threats.
On November 21, the Iranian foreign minister invited his counterpart Rajji to hold direct talks in Tehran, in response to comments by the Lebanese foreign minister in an interview for a local TV.
Rajji said on November 19 that he sees “no taboo” when it comes to protecting the interests of the Lebanese people, calling on Iran to hold negotiations in a neutral third country to address what he described as outstanding issues between the two sides.
In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his “dear friend” Youssef Rajji had reached out to him in an interview to propose opening talks. Araghchi responded by asserting that Iran does not interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
Furthermore, Araghchi stated that Iran welcomes any discussions aimed at boosting bilateral relations between Iran and Lebanon, without the need for a third country. In this context, he invited Rajji to Tehran to hold these talks. He also expressed his willingness to visit Beirut should he receive a formal invitation to do so.
