Iran unveils new ballistic missile
A variant of the Khorramshahr missile, Iran's new ballistic missile holds extremely precise aiming capabilities and a large payload.
Iran's armed forces showcased their latest type of ballistic missile, named "Khorramshahr-4 long-range strategic missile" on Thursday morning.
The reveal took place on the occasion of Khorramshahr's liberation from the West-backed Saddam regime in 1982.
The missile is one of the most sophisticated to be created by scientists at the Defense Ministry's Aerospace Organization, with a range of 2,000 km and a 1,500 kg high-explosive payload.
This missile is fitted with one of the most complex liquid fuel engines, and the engine is housed in the fuel tank, allowing for its height to be reduced to nearly 13 meters.
The new missile is also the most sophisticated variant of Khorramshahr, a sort of point-blank missile that does not require guidance in the final phase. According to the army, this variant has extreme aim precision mid-flight.
The Khorramshahr's speed makes it extremely difficult for its target to detect and intercept it.
Iran has recently tested many missiles, and managed to mark its position as a global leader in the production of cheap and lethal drones, according to the UK's Defense Intelligence Agency.
In late December 2022, the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Major General Ali Bagheri, underlined that Iran stands among the world's five leading countries in terms of drone capabilities.
