Iran warns of immediate response to any anti-Iran IAEA resolution
Iran's leadership reiterates its commitment to peaceful nuclear activities while warning of a firm response to any IAEA resolution targeting its program.
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian affirmed on Thursday that Iran’s nuclear program is fully in line with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) frameworks and remains committed to peaceful use of nuclear technology.
In a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized that, according to the Fatwa of the leader of Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the country does not seek nuclear weapons, highlighting Iran’s cooperation with international bodies to address any concerns.
Pezeshkian also highlighted that IAEA reports show that Iran has fulfilled all its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but the United States withdrew from the agreement unilaterally.
On a different note, the Iranian President condemned Israeli actions, particularly the assassination of former Hamas political bureau chief, martyr Ismail Haniyeh, accusing "Israel" of violating international laws by targeting civilians, including women and children, while receiving support from nations that claim to advocate for human rights.
Pezeshkian, then, reaffirmed that while Iran seeks peace, it will respond firmly to any threats to its security.
On his part, Grossi praised Pezeshkian’s peaceful approach and the cooperation of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), expressing confidence that Pezeshkian’s leadership would lead to a new chapter in Iran-IAEA relations. Grossi also noted that strong collaboration would help counter efforts to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program.
Grossi arrived in Tehran late Wednesday and was welcomed by AEOI spokesperson Behrouz Kamalvandi.
Anti-Iran IAEA resolution to trigger 'immediate response'
Moreover, on that topic, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, cautioned that any anti-Iran resolution from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would trigger an “immediate response", underscoring Tehran's determination to continue its peaceful nuclear program despite international pressure.
During a joint press conference in Tehran with Grossi, Eslami warned, "Any resolution against Iran's nuclear program will be met with Iran's immediate response."
He emphasized that Iran remains committed to its nuclear activities in line with its national interests and has the right to retaliate if the IAEA adopts confrontational measures. "If the opposite side takes the path of confrontation, resolution, and disruption against Iran, it will receive a reciprocal response," he said.
Acknowledging Iran’s past compliance under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) until the US unilateral exit in 2018, Eslami signaled Iran’s willingness to engage constructively, adding, "If they take the path of interaction, Iran is willing to interact, but if they choose another path, Iran will take necessary decisions."
It is worth noting that Eslami's comments follow reports of European nations pushing for a new resolution against Iran at the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors meeting.
