Iranian, Iraqi FM discuss talks between Tehran, Riyadh
During a phone call with Iraqi Foreign minister Fouad Hussein, Iranian FM Amir-Abdollahian hailed Iraq's efforts and constructive role in the formation and promotion of regional dialogues.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed during a phone call with his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein some issues of mutual concern in the field of bilateral ties, as well as major developments in the regional arena, most notably regarding talks between Tehran and Riyadh.
Hussein shared his assessment with Amir-Abdollahian regarding the recent presence of Iraq at the Jeddah Summit.
The Iraqi FM stated that his government conducted the necessary talks and consultations for regional cooperation at the Jeddah Summit, and it will continue its efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.
On his account, Amir-Abdollahian hailed Iraq's efforts and constructive role in the formation and promotion of regional dialogues, highlighting Iran's willingness to continue consultations and exchanging views with Iraq.
It is worth noting that the Arab leaders at Jeddah Summit have welcomed "the positive role played by Iraq to facilitate communication and build confidence among the countries of the region," expressing their support for Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and stability, and all the reforms necessary to achieve its economic recovery.
On his part, Saudi foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan held a press conference after the Jeddah Summit during which he said the Kingdom’s hand is extended to Iran, stating that the Iran-Saudi talks, which were hosted by Iraq have been positive, but have yet to achieve tangible results.
Last month, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as part of a regional visit that also included a visit to Iran as part of Baghdad's efforts to bridge Tehran and Riyadh's viewpoints.
Iraqi sources told Al Mayadeen that the meetings in Riyadh and Tehran are to discuss important files regarding Iraqi mediation to open diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, noting that the meetings in Riyadh and Tehran have brought forward positive effects for Iraq, especially regarding strengthening regional partnership and cooperation.
