The Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced targeting the US base at Erbil Airport on Saturday evening.
In a statement, the Iraqi Resistance confirmed that "in response to the enemy's crimes against our people in Gaza, our fighters targeted the American occupation base at Erbil Airport with a drone that directly hit its target."
Additionally, Al Mayadeen's sources reported shelling that targeted US forces at Erbil Airport in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
Earlier on Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani confirmed Iraq’s position rejecting any aggression against Iraqi lands during a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
During the call, al-Sudani emphasized that the November 22 US aerial attack on the Jurf al-Nasr area that left eight martyrs from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) constituted a violation of Iraqi sovereignty, as indicated in a statement by his office.
Two days ago, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq affirmed its "readiness to escalate military operations inside and outside Iraq if the American enemy persists in the continuation of the Zionist killing machine, whether in steadfast Gaza or proud southern Lebanon."
Earlier, the leader of the Iraqi Badr Organization, Mohammed al-Gebraoui declared that any participation of the US in the aggression on Gaza would be met with "direct hits on US interests in Iraq", emphasizing that the Resistance's operations would resume until the Israeli aggression stops.
The commander additionally reasserted, in an interview with Al Mayadeen, that there is no legitimacy to US presence in Iraq and that the Resistance can target US interests, even in protected zones.
