IRGC Navy vessels equipped with AI-guided homegrown missiles: Chief
The Commander of the IRGC's Navy underscores the vessels' ability to achieve higher cruising velocities and superior qualities compared to their predecessors.
Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, the Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, revealed that the force has successfully integrated long-range naval cruise missiles with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities onto its vessels, Fars news agency reported on Thursday.
Speaking at a ceremony in the southern Iranian port city of Bushehr, Admiral Tangsiri emphasized that this technological enhancement has substantially strengthened the IRGC Navy's deterrent capabilities.
Highlighting the remarkable features of the new vessels, Admiral Tangsiri underscored their ability to achieve higher cruising velocities and superior qualities compared to their predecessors.
"The design and manufacture of such vessels by Iranian experts at the IRGC Navy exhibit the country’s strong resolve to attain self-sufficiency in the production of essential combat equipment and systems," he indicated.
Admiral Tangsiri reported that some IRGC naval units have already received these advanced vessels, and the entire combat units of the force are expected to be equipped with them in the near future.
Furthermore, Admiral Tangsiri mentioned the manufacturing of the Shahid Hassan Baqeri patrol combat vessel and Shahid Sayyad Shirazi warship, both named after martyr General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated in a US drone strike in January 2020. He expressed optimism about the soon-to-be-added domestically designed and manufactured Abu Mahdi and Rais Ali Delvari vessels to the IRGC naval fleet.
In addition to naval advancements, Admiral Tangsiri highlighted progress in the development of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles, improvements in their flight endurance, increased payload capacity, and the production of naval subsurface vessels.
Elsewhere, the Commander of the IRGC Navy stressed that the Iranian Armed Forces maintain constant and vigilant surveillance of the Gulf region, closely monitoring enemy activities through ground, aerial, sea-surface, and underwater surveillance systems.
