Israeli media: More bombing will not restore deterrence
Haaretz says Israeli officials should stop the war on Gaza for the sake of their own people and security.
According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, it has become clear that the continuation of the Israeli war on Gaza does not serve the "liberation of Israeli prisoners" at all, but rather motivates the Resistance to further hold onto its positions and strengthen its conditions, acknowledging the power of the latter by stressing that no military operation will be able to diminish the Resistance.
The newspaper urged those who believe that there are other "achievements" of the Israeli war on Gaza must state what these achievements are, and whoever supports the continuation of the war must also explain when and how it ends.
Now is the only time to acknowledge that further bombing will not "restore Israeli deterrence" and will not contribute to "enhancing security", as the "Israeli government has abandoned its prisoners," according to Haaretz.
The newspaper added that there is a need for "a decisive settlement that allows for the restoration of the Israeli territories as well as the Gaza Strip, with the participation of Arab countries."
A ceasefire does not prevent its initiation later if the "military threat" is renewed, but it opens "a necessary and overdue door to diplomacy", Haaretz said, insisting again that the occupation should stop its war.
The Economist reported yesterday that IOF generals described 2024 as a "year of war," confirming that even after a ceasefire, the impact of this war will last for years, affecting "Israel's military strategy" and in turn "its economy."
The former Chief of Staff of the Southern Front, Reserves Brigadier General Harel Kanfu, stated to the Israeli Kan channel that "the devastation of Gaza will not constitute a deterrent," insisting that all talks about deterrence and restraint should stop following the war of October 7.
The world calls for a ceasefire
During a Monday news conference at UN headquarters, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, saying, "The onslaught on Gaza by Israeli forces over these 100 days has unleashed wholesale destruction and levels of civilian killings at a rate that is unprecedented during my years as Secretary-General."
In condemnation of Israeli brutal conduct in the Strip, specifically as the IOF targets civilian women and children, Guterres said, "Nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people."
