Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Saturday that Beirut condemns the Israeli attacks on the country, by air, land, and sea.

This came in a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the International Security Council, through Lebanon's mission to the United Nations, according to the Lebanese Cabinet.

The letter also included an affirmation of Lebanon's commitment to International Resolution No. 1701.

In a statement, the Ministerial Council added that the Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, held a meeting with the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Abdullah Bou Habib on Saturday to follow up on the discussion around the Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, and the missiles launched from Lebanese territories.

Upon his meeting with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, Mikati said that Lebanon absolutely rejects any military escalation emanating from its land and the use of Lebanese territory to carry out operations that destabilize the existing stability, according to a Lebanese government statement.

Mikati called on the Italian minister to pressure "Israel" to stop any operations that lead to more tension in the south, according to the statement.

For his part, Lebanese Defense Minister Maurice Slim said on Friday that the escalation in the south poses a threat to stability and the army is ready to confront any aggression, stressing that the army is keen to cooperate with UNIFIL and maintain stability and calm in the south.

The northern settlements in occupied Palestine were subjected to an intense rocket attack on Thursday, originating from Lebanese territory, in an event described by the Israeli media as the "most dangerous" since the Second Lebanon War.

This escalation comes in the wake of the events that took place in Al-Aqsa Mosque two days ago, after the Israeli forces stormed the mosque, assaulted the worshipers, and tried to expel them by force.
