NYT details how Hamas dealt heavy blow to unprepared Israeli military
Al-Qassam Brigades' elite and commando forces have executed a well-thought-of wide-scale plan targetting cutting off comms in Gaza's Envelope and attacking several military sites simultaneously.
The New York Times has published an investigation detailing a part of Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades infiltration operation on an Israeli military site in Gaza's Envelope.
The newspaper based its investigation on body camera footage published by al-Qassam Brigades' military media and statements of unnamed Israeli officials.
How did Hamas infiltrate the Israeli occupation's intelligence site?
- 10 Resistance fighters crossed through the separation fence erected by the Israeli occupation forces using motorbikes.
- The fighters' mission was well-planned as they were able to discover several gaps within the military's defensive structures.
- The fighters headed eastwards past the fence on 5 motorbikes each of which carried two fighters.
- After 10 miles they changed their directions towards a woodland where they got off their bikes and planted and detonated an explosive device in what looked like an abandoned gate.
- One of the fighters had a detailed map which he used to direct the rest of the team toward their objective.
- The team was able to locate an unlocked entrance to a fortified building, taking over a communications room full of computers.
The occupation soldiers were caught off-guard. Many were seen in their underwear and others were still sleeping. In the "Zikim" naval base several were seen hiding inside toilet stalls.

How did Hamas take advantage of the IOF's unpreparedness?
- Hamas' fighters surprised the "Middle East's strongest army" and defeated it last Saturday, The New York Times wrote.
- The Resistance faction had deep knowledge of the Israeli military weaknesses, as Hamas and other factions were able to infiltrate Gaza's Envelope in a short period after dawn.
- The group deployed drones to disable several defensive structures alongside the separation fence creating wide-ranging blind spots.
- Hamas deployed bulldozers and explosives to create pathways for fighters to enter military sites and settlements.
- The newspaper says that 200 fighters went into Israeli-occupied territories, as 1800 others followed suit at a later time.
- They used motorbikes and pickup trucks for transportation and took control of at least 8 military bases.
- Fighters were well acquainted with the weakness of the Israeli occupation forces as well as the response time of backup forces.
- With several communication hubs taken down, Israeli soldiers found it difficult to communicate and collaborate against incoming commando forces.

A document dating back to October 2022, retrieved by Israeli officials and shared with NYT shows that platoons had designated navigators, saboteurs, and drivers, while several mortar units provided cover for their advance.
The Palestinian Resistance's wide-scale attack has many more details that will be uncovered as events continue to unfold. Nonetheless, the Resistance has carried out one of the most successful operations against the Israeli military in the history of the Arab struggle against the Israeli occupation, killing more than 250 soldiers and capturing dozens of settlers and soldiers in just one day while following ethics and rules of war.
