Palestinian detainees killed in Israeli prisons reach 40: PPS
Since last October, the number of Palestinian detainees killed in Israeli occupation prisons has reached 40.
Abdullah al-Zghari, the Director of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), stated that a year after the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the number of Palestinian detainees killed in Israeli prisons has risen to 40.
This count includes 14 detainees from the West Bank and al-Quds, two from the territories occupied in 1948, and 24 from Gaza. He also mentioned that the total number of identified prisoners and detainees who have died in Israeli custody since 1967 has now reached 277.
At a press conference at the al-Bireh municipality in Ramallah, al-Zghari revealed the names of 15 detainees from Gaza who died in Israeli custody, identities that had not been previously made public. He stated that the Israeli occupation reported that these individuals had passed away in its jails and detention facilities after October 7, 2023.
He affirmed that the reported number of Gaza detainees who have died in Israeli prisons is not definitive, estimating that the total could be in the dozens based on reports from Israeli media and human rights organizations.
Al-Zghari added that the reported number of Palestinian detainees who died in Israeli detention centers as a result of the Israeli crimes against prisoners includes only those whose names have been verified and confirmed by prisoner organizations.
He anticipates that dozens more have likely been ruthlessly killed in Israeli prisons, with their fates unknown due to "Israel's" policy of enforced disappearance in the absence of any international intervention.
Since October 7, 2023, the number of detentions conducted by Israeli forces has surpassed 11,100 in the West Bank and al-Quds.
The number of detained women has surpassed 420, including those from the 1948-occupied territories and several female detainees from Gaza. Additionally, at least 740 children have been detained in the West Bank and al-Quds.
Additionally, 108 journalists have been detained, with 58 still in custody, including six female journalists. Rasha Hirzallah, a reporter for the Palestinian News and Information Agency WAFA, is among the female detainees still held.
Since the onset of the violence, the number of administrative detention orders issued has surpassed 9,000, encompassing both new and renewed orders.
As of the start of this month, the total number of detainees in Israeli occupation prisons has surpassed 10,100, which includes 95 females and 270 children, with 3,398 of them being held under administrative detention.
