Numerous Palestinian factions condemn the Israeli assassination of top Hezbollah commander Fouad Shokor as they mourn the man who dedicated his life to the cause.
The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Resistance movement, mourned Wednesday the martyrdom of senior Hezbollah commander Fouad Ali Shokor, also known as Sayyed Mohsen, who was martyred on the path to al-Quds with "the utmost pride, honor, and confidence in God's imminent victory."
Al-Qassam Brigades praised the martyr's central role in "supporting the Palestinian people and their Resistance" during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and his significant contributions to "building the front of Resistance against the Zionist occupation" over many years.
Lebanese Resistance curbing enemy: PIJ
The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine (PIJ) expressed its deepest condolences and congratulations for the martyrdom of Commander Fouad Shokor to Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, as well as to "the movement's cadres, supporters, and the families of the martyrs."
The Resistance movement extended condolences to the Lebanese people and the families of the martyrs, praying for the swift recovery of the wounded.
In a statement, the PIJ conveyed its confidence that Lebanon and its Resistance are capable of "curbing and deterring the enemy" and that "the assassination of leaders strengthens the resistance and its resilience on all fronts."
PIJ affirmed its solidarity with Lebanon and its people in facing any Zionist aggression.
Lebanon is writing history: al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades
The Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, mourned martyr Fouad Shokor as a martyr on the path to al-Quds.
They congratulated Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and "all the mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance and Hezbollah leadership on this blessed martyrdom," sending condolences to his family and the Lebanese people.
In their statement, they highlighted that the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon "is writing a new history for the Islamic World with its steadfastness and sacrifices, inscribing it with the blood of its leaders and fighters, paying the price with their lives willingly and faithfully, establishing new equations that will have honorable outcomes by God's will."
The brigades affirmed that the occupation would "pay a heavy price for the grave crime" committed against Resistance leaders in Palestine and Lebanon and would "face dire consequences at the hands of the resistance fighters and heroes of the resistance axis" across all fronts and on all battlegrounds.
They concluded by stating that "the blood of the great martyr commander Sayyed Mohsen and all our nation's martyrs will act as a fire that will burn the enemy's leaders and settlers."
Assassinations not to weaken resolve: Mujahideen movement
The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement offered its deepest condolences and blessings to Hezbollah and the Lebanese people for the martyrdom of the commander, recalling "his long jihadist journey, sacrifices, and significant role in the resistance and confronting the Zionist enemy," particularly in the battle fought by "the resistance fighters in Lebanon in support of our brave Palestinian people in Gaza."
The movement noted the farewell to "great figures who fell to the treacherous Zionist missiles," including Sayyed Mohsen and martyr leader Ismail Haniyeh, "as the blood of the fighters and the Islamic World's honorable people mixes in the battle to defend al-Quds."
Assassinations "will not break our resolve or the will of the resistance and will not restore the Zionist enemy's deterrence and prestige," the statement added.
The Mujahideen stated that the cowardly crimes committed by the occupation "reflect its failure and impotence in the face of the steadfastness and jihad of our resistance and the valiant support fronts."
The movement expressed full confidence that the occupation would "face retribution for its continuous crimes against our people and nation, and the punishment will match the crime," adding that the blood of "our people's and our nation's martyrs will create glorious victory and hasten the expulsion of the usurping Zionist entity from our nation's body."
Assassinations only to increase steadfastness: PFLP
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) mourned martyr Shokor, who "dedicated his life as a steadfast resister" for Lebanon, Palestine, and the causes of the nation, and who significantly contributed to "exhausting the enemy" in Operation al-Aqsa Flood.
They considered his loss a major one for Lebanon, the Axis of Resistance, the Palestinian people, and the Palestinian Resistance factions.
The PFLP called upon the masses of the Islamic World and the free people of the world to rally around the Resistance, raising their voices in solidarity with the oppressed peoples and the brave resistance facing this criminal enemy, and to rise up everywhere in the world against the Israeli occupation.
The Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military wing of the PFLP, also mourned Commander Shokor, who fulfilled his "duty of struggle and combat towards our Lebanese and Palestinian peoples and the Arab nation" in defending Lebanon and Palestine and championing "the oppressed against the continuous Zionist aggression against our nation."
The brigades affirmed that the assassination of the martyr "and those before him and those who will follow will only increase our determination and steadfastness" in continuing the path of the martyrs in struggle and combat until the liberation of "our entire Palestinian national soil and the restoration of all our usurped rights and the recovery of the occupied Arab lands in Lebanon and Syria."
In their statement, they saluted the Lebanese people and Hezbollah for the souls of "those who illuminated the path to freedom and independence with their blood on the path of honor, the path to al-Quds," and saluted the hands "still pulling the trigger" until freedom is achieved and the occupation is expelled.
Crimes not to go unpunished: DFLP
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) mourned the death of Commander Fouad Shokor, viewing his assassination as a "blatant challenge" and a "clear readiness to ignite the fires of wars in the region."
The DFLP highlighted that the occupation believes such actions would extricate it from its political and military crises, "which it has embroiled itself in," as well as dragging the region "into a war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, and an aggressive war affecting southern Lebanon and various parts of its territories."
In their statement, the DFLP affirmed that the assassination would not go "unaccounted for in a manner proportional to the magnitude of this significant event," targeting one of the "distinguished and senior leaders in the Lebanese national resistance and in Hezbollah."
The statement described Commander Shokor as "one who dedicated his life and daily efforts to defending his homeland and its sovereignty, the national dignity of his people, particularly the Palestinian cause, and the national rights of its people, in the open confrontation against the Zionist occupation project."
The DFLP reiterated that the martyr commander is "a martyr of Palestine and its resistance and people," and that the heroes of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and the West Bank "have pledged, irrevocably, that the criminal occupation will pay dearly for every drop of blood from a Palestinian, Lebanese, or any other martyr, as all martyrs are the children of Palestine."
A martyred legend
On Tuesday evening, "Israel" struck a residential building in the Lebanese capital of Beirut's Southern Suburb, attempting to assassinate Shokor.
Hajj Mohsen, from the town of Nabi Sheet in the Bekaa Valley, was considered one of the founding members of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon.
Shokor began his militant activities in the Ouzai area in Lebanon's capital Beirut and quickly became a key figure in resisting the 1982 Israeli invasion. He participated in notable battles such as those in Khalde and the Faculty of Sciences in Beirut, where he emerged as a significant commander and helped establish Resistance groups.
Shokor was considered one of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's closest advisors and has been pursued by the United States for the alleged role he played in a bombing operation that eliminated US and French soldiers deployed in Lebanon during the Civil War, in the 1983 Beirut Barracks Bombings.
Following the operation, the US placed a $5 million bounty for any information on Shokor but failed to find him. He was designated as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" by the United States in 2019 after he was designated by the Department of the Treasury in 2015.
The New York Times, citing an anonymous Israeli military official and other informed sources, said Sayyed Hassan's confidant had assumed some of Martyr Mustafa Badreddine's responsibilities following his martyrdom in Syria.
Throughout his career, Shokor was involved in defending Syria during the war and the liberation of al-Qusayr, and he was regarded as the equivalent of a Chief of Staff.
He is described as an "experienced veteran" and one of the masterminds behind the development of Hezbollah's precision-guided missile arsenal.
In 1992, Shokor expanded his influence by handling external affairs, including the Bosnia and Herzegovina portfolio, and mentoring resistant youths who supported their brethren in Bosnia.
After returning to Lebanon, he continued his Resistance activities as a military unit commander until 1995 and was pivotal in founding Hezbollah's naval and air forces.
In 2006, he was responsible for the missile and naval forces, notably targeting the Israeli Sa'ar warship. Shokor was appointed as a central Jihadi assistant by Hezbollah's Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and the party's Shura Council.
