The recent explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran was a "devastating tragedy," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said, pledging full governmental support for the victims’ families and others impacted by the blast.
Speaking during a national festival honoring Iranian workers on Wednesday, Pezeshkian emphasized that no grieving family would be left alone. He said the government is committed to identifying all those affected and ensuring they receive their entitled salaries, benefits, and necessary assistance.
The president called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident and urged both Parliament and media outlets to continue following the matter closely.
He reaffirmed his administration's dedication to safeguarding the health and welfare of all citizens, especially Iranian workers.
Government coordinates compensation, investigation
During a cabinet session, President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation to countries that extended condolences, particularly thanking Russia for providing equipment and rescue teams to aid local responders in Bandar Abbas.
He instructed cabinet members to coordinate with insurance companies to assess damages and accelerate claims processing for those affected. Additionally, he called on the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Trade to collect data on damaged vehicles and collaborate with relevant bodies to ensure swift and fair compensation.
The president’s remarks come amid growing concern over the impact of the explosion and underline the government’s stated commitment to transparency and swift response.
Iran contained fire at Shahid Rajaee port following the deadly blast
The blast, which struck a dock at the southern port of Shahid Rajaee on Saturday, was powerful enough to be heard dozens of kilometers away.
According to state media, at least 70 people were killed and more than 1,000 others were injured in the explosion and the subsequent fire, which also caused widespread damage.
Although primary estimates stated that the fire resulting from the explosion needed 15 to 20 days to be fully extinguished, authorities have been relentlessly working to expedite the process. Just yesterday, they announced that a major fire was contained.
