Poll: Americans don't want US troops to fight Russia
A recent poll reveals that Americans are adamantly opposed to the United States sending troops to fight Russian troops.
A new Economist/YouGov poll of 1,500 US adults conducted between February 5-8 revealed that the majority of Americans do not want American troops to engage in direct battle with Russians.
The survey question was, “Do you think each of the following courses of action would be a good idea or a bad idea?”
"Sending soldiers to Ukraine to fight Russian soldiers" was the final course of action. This was met with a strong negative response, with 55% thinking it was a bad idea and only 13% saying it was a good idea. 33% were unsure.
Despite the fact that some Americans are unfamiliar with Ukraine, according to Economist/YouGov, they regard Russia as a threat to the US: "Americans don’t just see Russia as a threat to Ukraine. They also view it as a threat to the U.S. More than two-thirds call it a threat, and one-third say Russia is a direct and immediate threat."
Earlier, Biden told Americans that they should leave Ukraine "as soon as possible, and in any event, in the next 24 to 48 hours," speaking from his White House podium.
The US President moved on from this to tell counterparts today, in a phone call with transatlantic leaders, that Russian forces will possibly attack Ukraine in five days.
In response, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Washington of continuing to spread lies about Ukraine, explaining that US politicians continue to lie and create pretexts to attack civilians around the world.
Poll: Americans don’t want war with Russia over Ukraine
Earlier, another poll revealed that Americans don’t want the US to go to war to defend the former Soviet Republic, meaning Ukraine. The majority preferred that US leaders focus on domestic issues, which are many and require handling.
The poll came amid mounting tensions in Eastern Europe and after repeated US claims that the Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to invade Ukraine, which Putin repeatedly denied, accusing, in his turn, the US and NATO of military buildup and provocations on the Ukrainian border.
