US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a one-on-one meeting during their summit in Alaska on Friday, the former revealed. Trump confirmed that the negotiations covered a wide range of issues, noting that “only one or two key points” remain unresolved.
He emphasized that reaching a final agreement in Ukraine would require the involvement of European countries, while directly suggesting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should strike a deal with Russia.
He added that while Ukraine may or may not agree, the chances of understanding are now very close.
NATO, security, and trade dominated the agenda
Speaking to Fox News, Trump stated that discussions with Putin included topics such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), security measures, and territorial issues, noting that the outcomes of the meeting have made it unnecessary to proceed with additional tariffs on China or retaliatory tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil.
Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to Washington, Aleksandr Darcheyev, announced that new consultations between Moscow and Washington will be held soon. He noted that the goal of the upcoming talks is to address current tensions and push toward normalizing bilateral relations.
Summit ends with positive momentum
The summit between Putin and Trump concluded today in Alaska. Both sides described the talks as “constructive” and “highly productive.”
The Kremlin confirmed that the discussions went smoothly. Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev also stated that the atmosphere during the meeting was positive and forward-looking.
