Responding to the assassination of Haniyeh is inevitable: Bagheri
Iranian Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri asserted that Iran alone would determine the timing and method of its revenge.
The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, confirmed on Monday that "revenge against the Israeli entity is inevitable."
During the induction ceremony of the new Iranian Minister of Defense, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Major General Mohammad Bagheri stated that the assassination of Hamas’ political bureau chief, martyr Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran "is something that cannot be forgotten," and emphasized that revenge for his blood by the Axis of Resistance or by Iran is inevitable.
He emphasized that Iran "will decide how and when to take revenge and will not fall into the trap of media provocations initiated by the enemies."
General Bageri also underscored that "the Axis of Resistance will, in turn, avenge the blood of martyr Haniyeh, each according to its plans and capabilities, and what we witnessed yesterday is only part of that revenge."
Earlier today, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghshi asserted that Iran's response to the Israeli assassination of martyred Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh during his visit to Tehran will be "definite and calculated."
In a phone call with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, Araghshi said Iran does not seek escalation, but "is not afraid of it," noting that the assassination of Martyr Haniyeh and the "unforgivable" breach of Tehran's sovereignty and national security necessitates a "definite, calculated, and accurate" response.
Moreover, Araghsi is scheduled to meet with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Tehran, to discuss regional issues. Al Thani will also meet with newly-elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Earlier this week, former IRGC commander Mohsen Rezaei said in an interview with CNN on August 23 that Iran's retaliation to the assassination of Hamas' politburo chief will be well-measured so that Prime Minister Benjamin can not "save himself" from the crises he's in.
"Iranian actions will be very calculated ones," Rezaei said, adding, "We have investigated the possible repercussions. And we will not let Netanyahu, who is sinking in a swamp, save himself."
The former top IRGC official said that there has to be a ceasefire in Gaza soon, criticizing the United States and "Israel" for prolonging the war on the Strip.
"If in the first weeks of the Gaza war, the United States had stopped Israel and (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, the war would not extend," he said. "So the main element of the extension of the war are the US and Israel. The more this war extends, the more the United States will be damaged."
