An attempt by Ukrainian forces to infiltrate Crimea by sea on Tuesday night was thwarted by a Russian military jet, Russia's defense ministry said on Wednesday.

"On the night of October 4, attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks against facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation were foiled. In the northwestern part of the Black Sea, Russian Aerospace Forces' aircraft foiled an attempt by a landing group of the Ukrainian armed forces to infiltrate Crimea while moving in the direction of Cape Tarkhankut in a military speedboat and three jet skis," the ministry said in a statement.

In a separate statement, the defense ministry announced that Russia's air defenses downed around 31 drones over three Russian regions launched by Ukrainian forces late Tuesday night.

"On the night of October 4, attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks against facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation were foiled. Air defense systems on duty intercepted and destroyed 31 Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles over the territory of the Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions," the statement read.

The Ukrainian army has become more reliant on the use of long-range missiles and attack drones, as its counteroffensive is proving to be a failed mission.

Kiev carried out tens of near-border UAV attacks just in the past two weeks, with a special focus on Crimea and Belgorod or regions in their vicinity.

On Sunday evening, the Russian defense ministry said that six Ukrainian attack drones and two missiles were intercepted over Crimea. Ukraine used two operational-tactical Grom-2 missiles in the attack, the ministry added, noting that no casualties or material losses were recorded.
