Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has warned the United States against offering direct military support to "Israel" amid its ongoing aggression on Iran, cautioning that such intervention could "radically destabilize the situation in the Middle East."
Speaking to Interfax news agency, Ryabkov said Moscow strongly advises Washington not to entertain the idea of supplying military assistance. He also noted that Russia remains in contact with both Tehran and Tel Aviv.
In parallel, the Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated its willingness to mediate in the escalating situation. During the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized Russia’s commitment to diplomacy and political resolution.
“We made a statement literally on the eve of this situation... and said that we were ready to provide our mediation efforts, in particular in the dialogue around the Iranian nuclear program. Let me remind you—peaceful,” Zakharova told Izvestia.
She reaffirmed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities, underscoring Russia’s earlier role in brokering the original Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA):
“As a matter of fact, we proved ourselves in this capacity when the deal on the Iranian nuclear program was concluded.”
'Millimeters away from disaster'
Zakharova warned of the catastrophic potential of military strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure: “Attacks on facilities related to the peaceful development of nuclear energy could lead to serious consequences.”
She cited the June 13 Israeli operation 'Rising Lion', which targeted Iranian nuclear and military sites and assassinated senior military officials and scientists. Iran retaliated the same day with Operation True Promise 3, launching strikes on Israeli military positions.
“Every day, missiles are launched several times at Iran’s peaceful civilian infrastructure nuclear facilities, which are under the control of the IAEA observers,” she said. “It is necessary to understand that we are millimeters away from disaster.”
Russia slams Western media silence, calls for global response
Zakharova further stated that Russia is actively working through international platforms, including the UN Security Council and the IAEA, to prevent wider escalation.
“All efforts are aimed at this, because this is an emergency situation,” she emphasized.
She also criticized the lack of Western media coverage regarding attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities: “Obviously, attacks are being carried out on Iran's nuclear infrastructure, which is of a peaceful nature... And it is really surprising that the world's mainstream and Western media... do not see anything, as always. Apparently, the strategic silence, the so-called white noise, has been turned on again.”
The remarks were delivered during the 28th edition of SPIEF, held under the theme “Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.”
This is happening as "Israel" has escalated its rhetoric by threatening to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities, including the heavily fortified Fordow site, and to assassinate Iranian Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, while openly discussing regime change in Tehran. These threats come amid growing signs of direct US involvement in the war on Iran.
