Russian forces have captured the settlement of Basovka (Basivka) in Ukraine’s Sumy Region, according to a Sunday statement from the Russian Defense Ministry. “In the offensive action, units of the Sever group of forces have liberated Basovka settlement in the Sumy Region,” the Ministry said.
In addition to seizing the settlement, Russian air and artillery strikes targeted Ukrainian troops and equipment in 12 other settlements across the Sumy Region.
Further south, Russian battle groups reportedly engaged and defeated six Ukrainian brigades near the settlements of Gornal, Guyevo, and Oleshnya in Russia’s Kursk Region. The Ministry added that Russian forces are continuing efforts to eliminate Ukrainian units along the Kursk front.
Heavy losses for Ukrainian forces across frontlines
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine lost more than 170 troops in 24 hours in battles near the Kursk border. The Ministry reported that the Ukrainian forces also lost “two armored combat vehicles, 12 motor vehicles, as well as three unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control points and an ammunition depot.”
Since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk direction, Kiev has reportedly lost over 72,320 personnel and 404 tanks, along with other equipment.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Tsentr (Center) battlegroup claimed to have eliminated up to 430 Ukrainian servicemen in a single day, along with “seven armored combat vehicles, a pickup and five field artillery pieces.”
Other battlefield updates from the Russian military include:
- The Zapad (West) battlegroup reportedly neutralized up to 230 Ukrainian troops, three US-made MaxxPro armored vehicles, and several artillery systems, including two Western models.
- The Yug (South) battlegroup claimed it killed up to 280 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed a US-made M777 155 mm howitzer.
- The Sever (North) battlegroup reported eliminating up to 65 Ukrainian troops and four armored combat vehicles.
- The Vostok (East) battlegroup said it killed over 130 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed a Swedish-made Archer 155 mm self-propelled artillery system.
- The Dnepr battlegroup reported eliminating over 65 Ukrainian troops, alongside an infantry fighting vehicle, three motor vehicles, four electronic warfare systems, and an ammunition depot.
It is worth noting that the Russian Defense Ministry emphasized that these operations were part of a broader effort to weaken Ukrainian military capabilities across multiple regions.
