Shoigu hails ties with China as pillar of global stability
China and Russia affirm their commitment to closer ties in light of the growing geopolitical tensions in the world.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated on Monday that relations between Russia and China are a vital component sustaining global stability today, as per TASS news agency.
"Bilateral relations between our countries have reached a new, unprecedented level and have become a major factor supporting global stability in the face of increasing geopolitical tensions in the world," Shoigu was quoted as saying by TASS in a telegram message to Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission and a close ally of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Shoigu also wished Zhang good health and happiness and expressed optimism that military cooperation between the two nations will continue to grow, contributing significantly to the strengthening of Russian-Chinese ties.
Shoigu also congratulated He Weidong on his appointment as deputy chairman of the CMC, as per the Russian Defense Ministry.
"Russia and China are long-time friends and partners. Their shared border and history, as well as the long years of friendship, have knitted our peoples and countries tightly together," the Defense Minister said in his congratulatory telegram.
It is worth noting that Beijing's top diplomat, Wang Yi, met with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last month, and Xi could travel to Russia as soon as next week for a summit with Putin, Reuters quoted people familiar with the matter as saying.
"Thanks to the efforts of the leaders of our countries, ties between our states have risen to an unprecedentedly high level and have become a major factor for peace and international security," Shoigu stressed.
A growing friendship between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin has helped put the two countries closer together. The ambitions to end what China and Russia regard as America's economic and geopolitical hegemony further strengthened the diplomatic ties.
