Ali Larijani, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, arrived in Saudi Arabia earlier for talks with Saudi officials, the Iranian state TV reported.
The high-level talks, which were also attended by Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, focused on bilateral relations and recent regional developments.
Accompanying Larijani on the visit are his deputy, Ali Bagheri Kani, and Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali Bak, IRNA revealed.
This comes after informed sources told Al Mayadeen recently that Larijani was planning a visit to Saudi Arabia in the near future.
'Joint operations room' to counter Israeli 'madness'
On September 13, Larijani made an appeal on X for the Islamic countries to form a "joint operations room" to counter what he termed the "madness" of the Israeli entity. He suggested that such a move alone would be enough to worry the powers that support it.
Last month, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council embarked on a regional tour that included stops in Lebanon and Iraq. He signed a security memorandum of understanding in Baghdad before meeting with senior Lebanese officials in Beirut.
This comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts by Iran following the Israeli attack on Qatar, which has triggered a series of condemnations and a collapse of trust in US guarantees in the region.
