Somalian opposition MP calls on Russia to deploy forces in Somalia
Somali opposition leader Sied Abdi Nur urges Russia to deploy forces in civil war-ridden Somalia as a counterweight to western presence in the area.
Somalian opposition leader Siad Abdi Nur stated that Russian forces should be present in Somalia to bring peace and counterweight Western presence in the country.
"Russia can even participate in Somalian politics and can win, and Somalia would be at peace because we have got a solution where Russia can win without the West. The West does not want my country to be in peace; they create chaos, people kill each other, continue this war," Abdi Nur, a former adviser to former President Mohamed Abdullahi, told Sputnik.
Abdi Nur led a career as an officer in the Somalian army where he fought the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu against US troops who suffered heavy casualties. Later, the US army was forced to withdraw from the international alliance present in the country.

The politician said that the West aims to cripple Somalia and maintain the current status quo so that it could easily extract the African country’s natural resources.
"You know, when they are giving you chaos and chaos and chaos, people would become paralyzed and 'totally zero,' while during that time the West is benefiting: they want to take the resources.” He then added, “We have uranium, minerals, (fossil) fuels, natural gas, and agriculture around two big rivers with which we can feed the whole of Africa if properly implemented."
Since the early 1990s, Somalia has been involved in a number of brutal civil wars, prompting the deployment of numerous UN and African Union peacekeeping missions as well as harsh import restrictions due to an international arms embargo.
