Lebanon aims for the implementation of UN Resolution No. 1701: Mikati
Earlier, Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed "surprise" regarding Ghalibaf's remarks for Le Figaro about Tehran's willingness to negotiate with Paris regarding Lebanon and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No.1701.
Mikati said, "We are surprised by this position, which constitutes a blatant interference in Lebanese affairs, and an attempt to establish an unacceptable guardianship over Lebanon."
He added, "During the recent visits of the Iranian foreign minister and the speaker of the shura council to Lebanon, we emphasized the importance of understanding the Lebanese situation, particularly as Lebanon faces unprecedented Israeli aggression. We are collaborating with all of Lebanon's allies, including France, to pressure Israel into a ceasefire."
Mikati stated that only Lebanon is responsible for negotiations in implementing the UN resolution, stressing that all other parties must support the effort without imposing new mandates, which he explained "are rejected by all national and sovereign considerations"
A few days ago, at Mehrabad Airport, after returning from Geneva, having attended the 149th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Ghalibaf said, "We made every effort in Geneva to convey the voice of the oppressed people of Lebanon and Palestine," adding that "both Islamic and non-Islamic countries have taken good positions toward Palestine."
He underscored Iran's unwavering support for "any decision made by the people and government of Lebanon."
