Syria's Ministry of Defense has confirmed that members of the Syrian Arab Army deployed in the northern countryside of Latakia repelled a terrorist group attempting to infiltrate a military site.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry confirmed that militants were killed and wounded as a result of the confrontations.

The Syrian Arab Army continues to target terrorist organizations in various locations across the country as Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported, highlighting the casualties among Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorists after they were targeted by two drones belonging to the Syrian army in the area of Nawkous in northern Latakia last Wednesday.

Additionally, two days ago, the Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the armed forces deployed in the direction of Idlib and Raqqa countryside successfully downed and destroyed 7 drones belonging to terrorist organizations. These drones attempted to target military positions and civilian populations in nearby villages and towns that had been liberated by the Syrian army.

US replaces FSA leadership, works on fortifying its occupation bases

The American international coalition's leadership decided to dismiss the commander of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Muhammad Farid Al-Qasim, from his position, and appoint the non-conformist lieutenant colonel from FSA, Salem Turki al-Antari, as his replacement on February 29.

Farid al-Qasim was appointed in 2023 after his predecessor was dismissed by the US for working independently from it.

Informed sources told Al Mayadeen that "the decision came after a series of objections from members of the FSA and local council regarding Al-Qasim's strategies in the area."

The sources also remarked that initially appointing Al-Qasim 16 months ago was rejected through organized protests within the al-Rukban camp accusing him of torturing several people while operating under the Revolutionary Commando Army.

It was further shown that the United States is working on uniting all US-backed factions operating in the 55-kilometer area surrounding the al-Tanf military base and utilizing them to enhance the area's security.
