Tunisian President Kais Saied’s visit to Russia “might take place on the occasion of the upcoming participation of a female astronaut from Tunisia in a space mission to the ISS”, a Tunisian diplomat says.

A Tunisian diplomatic source revealed that efforts are made on organizing the visit of President Kais Saied to Russia as soon as possible.

On his account, Tunisian Ambassador Tarak Ben Salem told Sputnik that “now we are working to ensure that the president of Tunisia visits Russia as soon as possible”.

“Perhaps this (visit) will take place on the occasion of the upcoming, as we hope, participation of a female astronaut from Tunisia in a space mission to the ISS (International Space Station), which will depart from Russia”, he added.

The visit comes at a time when the North African Arab nation has been undergoing a political crisis since last July when the Tunisian President dismissed Prime Minister Hicham Mechichi and suspended parliament.

In October, he announced the formation of a new government, without lifting the parliament's suspension.

Saied also dissolved the Supreme Judicial Council, a major body dealing with judicial independence.

It is worth mentioning that the US and the EU are trying to isolate Russia against the backdrop of its military operation in Ukraine.
