UAE Ambassador to Iran to resume duties
As it seeks to rebuild ties, UAE reinstates its Ambassador to Iran, Saif Mohammed Al Zaabi, as per the UAE Foreign Ministry.
The UAE Ambassador to Iran, Saif Mohammed Al Zaabi, will resume his duties at the embassy in Tehran in the coming days, according to the UAE Foreign Ministry.
In a statement, the Ministry stressed that the decision was made in line with the UAE's efforts to improve relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“In line with UAE efforts to strengthen relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and as part of a previous decision to increase diplomatic representation to the rank of ambassador, and the recent phone call in this regard, held in July 26, 2022, between H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) reported that Saif Mohammed Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Tehran, will resume his duties in the coming days,” the statement read.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the decision comes following coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in accordance with diplomatic norms governing the bilateral relations between the two nations.
Furthermore, the Ministry confirmed that Ambassador Al Zaabi will resume his duties at the UAE Embassy in Iran in the coming days to help advance bilateral relations in collaboration with officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to achieve the mutual interests of the two countries and the region.
Lately, the UAE has been seeking to rebuild relations with Iran, aiming to re-establish good diplomatic and commercial ties.
Last month, Anwar Gargash, UAE Presidential Advisor, said his country was considering sending an ambassador back to Iran and urged regional economic cooperation to help ease political tensions.
On his account, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian hailed the opening of a new chapter in Iran-UAE relations last May, especially after appointing Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the country's new President.
