UK to allocate another $1.6 billion for Ukraine
Funds will be allocated from the emergency reserves following pressure from the UK's Defense and Foreign secretaries.
According to a report by The Sunday Times, an additional funding package in the amount of £1.3 billion ($1.6 billion) has been allocated for Ukraine by the British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak.
Sunak confirmed these additional funds following pressure from UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, according to the weekly.
These funds will be procured from the Treasury's emergency reserves and will be added to the UK's original £1.5 billion ($1.85 billion) allocated for Ukraine.
London's fresh package of military aid is in addition to $195 million worth of military equipment announced last month. It includes more Starstreak anti-aircraft missiles, 800 anti-tank missiles, and loitering munitions for precision strikes.
The UK is not alone in this, as US President Joe Biden also announced in a statement on Friday that he signed off on a new weapons package for Ukraine worth $150 million.
The US has so far given $3.4 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine since the war began on February 24, including howitzers, anti-aircraft and anti-armor missiles, ammunition and "Ghost" drones.
